Martin Fabian’s longsword workshop: A HEMAbuilding
Saturday, 12th September 2015
10.00 – 17.00
OŠ Frana Roša, Cesta na Dobrovo 114, Celje
A HEMA fencer’s life usually consists of a few developmental stages. In the beginning, there is a motivation. We want to fence, for whatever reason. Then we discover the amazing and vast world of historical sources. We fall in love with various weapons, styles and we slowly advance to understand the mechanics of fencing and we get the basics of action vs reaction. Then we start to fight each other and we develop our own style, preferences and deepen our understanding. And so on.
All of the aforementioned can be achieved within your own groups. And, what is great: Many people today are pretty advanced and also successful fencers and teachers. The traditional teaching model A>B may become boring.
In this workshop we’ll try to take a slightly different approach at fencing education; all of us will become students and coaches alike and we’ll try to explore our strengths and weaknesses altogether. We’ll also examine some common sparring situations, various tactics and approaches; we’ll fight together and we’ll definitely have some fun.
Requirements: Protective gear for sparring heavily recommended. Suitable for everyone, from beginners to experts. Very demanding for stamina.
